초록

한국 역사고고학에서 논의되고 있는 전기 가야란 대개 기원후 3세기 후반에서 4세기말 내지 5세기 전반까지가 대상이다. 이 시기에 조성된 가야유적은 1990년대 이후, 대규모 개발 행위와 많은 조사전문기관의 활동에 힘입어 다양한 성격의 유적(유구)조사와 함께 유물이 획득되었고, 다양한 부문에서 논의가 이루어지고 있다. 논의 주제는 변한과 가야의 관계, 즉 전사론과 전기론, 도질토기 등장 시기와 계통, 고식도질토기 양식론, 전기 가야 정치체의 범위와 연맹론, 사회구조론, 무기 · 무구 · 마구론, 군사체계와 전쟁론, 생산론, 대외관계론, 신라 · 가야 양식 토기 분화론, 연대론 등이다. 상기의 각 주제들에 대한 공통된 의견이 제시되지 못하고 연구자들 사이에 견해 차이가 심하다. 견해 차이가 심한 근저에는 물질자료의 역연대 상이가 있다. 본고에서는 현재 전기 가야 고고학에서 많이 논의되고 있지만, 연구자 간에 견해 차이가 많은 주제들을 선정하고, 주요 논의 내용과 문제점들을 짚어보고, 향후 논의되어야 할 주제와 과제들을 제시하였다.

초록(영문)

The early Gaya as discussed in the history archaeology of Korea usually refers to the period between the late 3rd centruy A.D. to the late 4th or early 5th century. The Gaya relics that remain from this period were discovered through exploration of their ruins in variety. This was caused by the mass development and the accompanying work of research specialized institutes after the 1990s and discussion is being carried out in various areas of study. The themes of discussion include the relationship between Byeonhan and Gaya, in other words the ‘Proto-history’ theory and ‘Early Period’ theory, the lineage and occuring period of the unglazed earthware, the form theory of ancient unglazed earthware, the union theory and extent of the political body of early Gaya, social theory, weapons and arms, the military system and war theory, production and diplomatic theories, union theory and the earthware division theory between the styles of Shilla and Gaya. The above issues are ones on which scholars do not agree and cannot present a united opinion on. The root of this marked dissent is the difference in the absolute chronology on the material evidence. The following paper proposes the themes which are being frequently discussed in the archaeology field of early Gaya but on which much dissent and disagreement exists between scholars. It goes over the main points and problems as well as suggests the themes and tasks to be taken on in the future.
