초록(영문)

Research has continued about the Posangpalkuk War. There is a general consensus that among the participating states in the war Chilpoguk Samulguk and Gojakuk were located in the western Gyeongnam region and therefore the war was in nature a ‘civil war in Gaya’. However Ilyeon writes in his book Samgukyusa the Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms that Boraguk was based in Naju Jeonnam. Also the Posangpalkuk was a maritime power sitting at an important hub in the trade route connecting China to Japan and given the range of the trade route the territory of the Posangpalkuk could be further expanded than thought before. It is assumed that Boraguk was included in the territory of the Shinmy Empire that shared a unique type of tomb like jar coffin tombs. It was an emerging power which occupied the fertile grain belt in the Sampogang river and took a geopolitical location advantageous for trade. Nevertheless from the mid to late 3rd century the Shinmy Empire including Boraguk lost its leadership in the Northeast Asian coastal route to Baekjae. Furthermore as its ties with China became weak due to internal disorder in China Boraguk seems to have moved its focus on the trade with Japan. Meanwhile the maritime powers in Gyeongnam region planned to invade Allaguk located inland to obtain stable farmland. Even though it had no direct reason to invade Allaguk Boraguk took part in the the Posangpalkuk War on account of interest in the trade with Japan which was then controlled by the Gyeongnam maritime powers. Following the failure in the war the Gyeongnam maritime powers began to decline but Boraguk appears to have had no big damage considering that there are many Jar coffin tombs along the Sampogang river. Instead it is considered that Boraguk took the lead in political coalition in the region. It seems that Boraguk started a friendly relationship with Baekjae during the reign of King Geunchogowang. Since then as King Gwanggaetodaewang and King Jangsuwang went on a conquest toward the south Baekjae lost its influence over the Mahan region. Consequently Boraguk moved its center from Sijongmyeon to Bannammyeon and enjoyed a golden age broadly contacting foreign powers like Gaya and Japan. However since the movement of the capital to Sabi in the late 5th century Boraguk fell under the indirect influence of Baekjae. Also since in 538 King Seongwang put in place Banggungsungje to incorporate local powers into the central government the native ruling class of Boraguk collapsed.
