초록

우리 나라의 전통 도자기는 각 시대별로 독특하고 개성적인 특수성과 더불어 시대를 초월한 보편성을 가지는 우수한 문화를 이룩하였다. 이러한 도자기는 다른 예술품에 비해 고대에서 현재에 이르기까지 유물이 가장 많이 남아 있기 때문에 시대별로 미적 특징을 잘 파악할 수 있는 지표가 되며 또한 당시의 미의식이나 사상체계를 연구하는데 필수 불가결한 자료가 된다. 그 중 대가야도기는 대가야의 사상이나 문화 종교 생활 철학 등과 밀접한 관련을 가지고 그 특유의 가치관을 반영하는 미적 양상으로 나타나고 있다. 본 연구에서는 대가야 도기를 대상으로 조형요소의 형식적 특징인 형태와 문양 장식 등의 미적 이미지 분석과 종합적 해석을 통한 내용적 특성을 구명함으로써 조형 요소에 내포된 상징적 의미와 함께 대가야인의 미적 가치관과 예술정신을 추론해내고자 하는 목적에서 연구를 진행하였다. 대가야인들은 그들의 삶의 욕구와 갈망을 도기라는 물질적 형식에 의미를 부여함으로써 우주적 원리를 집약적으로 표현한 것으로 보여진다. 미적 특성으로는 선적인 표현을 주로 하는 추상성 기하학성 상징성을 들 수 있는데 형태에서 보여지는 특징은 전반적으로 부드러운 곡선미를 이루며 대칭적인 형태로 되어있어 안정적인 균형미와 함께 풍만한 양감을 보여준다. 특히 횡선문에 의해 경계를 이루는 선 표현 위주의 문양들은 규칙적인 반복에 의한 환상 형태의 문양 배치로 직선 문양과 곡선 문양이 함께 어우러져 공간을 구성하고 조화를 이루어 나가는 구성적 발달 양상을 보여준다. 그리고 부착된 장식이나 투창으로 인해 전체적인 분위기의 변화와 더불어 미적 질서를 부여하고 있다. 내용적 특성으로 조형적 이미지는 주술적인 힘을 발휘한다고 믿어 대가야 공동체의 기원적 의미를 담아 그려 넣어진 명기로써 많은 상징성을 내포하고 있다. 대가야의 여러 가지 사상들은 오랜 세월에 걸쳐 대가야인들의 의식 속에 녹아들어 관념화되었으며 보편적인 상징 요소와 신화적 이미지로 대가야의 도기 예술에 반영되었다. 이러한 조형적 이미지는 주술적 힘을 발휘한다고 여김으로써 대가야 공동체의 기원적 의미를 담은 조형 요소로 시문되었다. 이는 형이상학적인 의미를 가진 상징적 형태로 농경 집단의 무의식적인 갈망이 투영된 무한한 생명적 욕구가 표현되어져 있음을 엿 볼 수 있었다. 후기 가야연맹체의 가장 강성한 세력을 가졌던 대가야인들은 주변의 백제·신라의 문화적 영향을 받으면서도 그들의 독자적인 사상과 미적 감정을 대가야 도기라는 조형매체를 통하여 여러 가지 사상적인 형태와 문양으로 표현하고 있었다.

Traditional pottery of Korea have created excellent culture with all-time universality as well as the unique features of each period. Since a lot more pottery remains from ancient times to today than any other works of art have been found they can be a barometer of aesthetic characteristics of different periods and also be essential research materials of the aesthetic sense or ideology of the times. Among them Dae-Gaya pottery are closely related to the ideology culture religion life and philosophy of Dae-Gaya Period and reflect the unique sense of value of the period. The purpose of this study is to infer the sense of value and beauty and the artistic spirit of Dae-Gaya people as well as the symbolic meaning involved in the moulding elements from the pottery. For the study I analyzed the images of the shape design and decoration which are formal features of moulding elements and general features through synthetic analysis. Dae-Gaya people seemed to intensively express the desire for their lives and the principle of the universe by giving meaning to material form the pottery. There are abstraction geometric figure symbolism normally expressed by lines in their aesthetic features and they look stable and full because of the beauty of their curves and symmetrical form. Designs created usually by various lines look like circles. And straight and curved lines are well matched and get joined together in good harmony to decorate the space. Attached decorations and holes help to change the general image of the pottery and show the regularity of beauty. Dae-Gaya people believed that the formative image could generate incantational power and made the excellent pottery symbolizing the origin of Dae-Gaya community. With the passage of time different ideas during Dae-Gaya Period came to form a philosophy of the people and affected the pottery art of Dae-Gaya with general symbolic elements and mythological image. This formative image was considered to have incantational power and became the formative elements with the meaning of the origin of Dae-Gaya community. This is a symbolic form with metaphysical meaning and we find that it expresses both unbounded desire for life and unconscious hope of the agricultural society. Dae-Gaya the most powerful tribe in the late Gaya Union expressed its original ideas and the sense of beauty through the pottery by using different shapes and designs while it was influenced by the cultures of Baekje Dynasty and Shilla Dynasty.
