In the early 6th-century, Paekje waged war against Banpa in the areas of Gimun and Daesa in attempts to advance into Kaya area. Previous research has argued that Gimun and Daesa areas were located in the Sumjin River Valley. This argument has supported such hypotheses as "Imna-Ilbonbu" Hypothesis, "Modified Imna-Ilbonbu" Hypothesis, and "Independent Development of Kava" Hypothesis. However, it is my contention that "Ginmun" and "Daesa" were located not In the Sumjin River Vally, but in the Nakdong River Valley. According to Kyechegi, Paekje levied war against Banpa over Gimun and Daesa areas. This war reflects Bonpa's resistance against Paekje s advance into Kaya from the north, but not "Big Kaya's" or Dac-Kaya's resistance against Paekje's advance from the Sumjin River Valley into Kaya. As is manifested from an historical evidence of Paekje's conquest of Kaya Chilgook (Seven Kaya Kingdoms) in A.D. 369, Paekje had captured Kaya from the north. Accordingly, we can interpret the dispute between Paekje and Banpa surrounding Gimun and Daesa not in terms of Paekje s first advance into Kaya area, but in terms of Paekje s long-term attacks from the north. In other words, the event of the antagonism between Paekje and Banpa concerning Gimun and Daesa results from the process of increasing influence over Kaya from Paekje s side. In the same context, we can note such provincial ministers as "goon-ryong" (the head of the county) and "sung-ju" (the lord of the castle) who were stationed in the Kaya area in the 6th century in attempts to extend their direct influence upon the area. Having understood this, we need to reexamine "Imna-Ilbonbu" Hypothesis, "Modified Imna-Ilbonbu" Hypothesis, and "Independent Development of Kaya" Hypothesis, according to which Oe (Japan=Yamato) had influence upon the Kaya area before Packje advanced into the latter. Although the dispute over Gimun and Daesa reveals Paekje's first invasion into the Kaya area, the argument that Yamato (Oe) made influence upon this area or that Kaya had made an independent development will lose its ground if Gimun and Daesa areas were located in the Nakdong River Valley.
