초록

이 글은 최근 가야사 연구가 質量의 두 측면에서 활기를 잃어버리고 부진의 늪에 빠져 있다는 사실을 前提로 해서 거기에 내재된 문제점을 간단히 짚어보고, 나아가 연구를 활성화시킬 수 있는 길을 나름대로 모색해보려는 의도에서 작성해본 것이다. 가야사 연구는 70년대 이후 한때 일종의 붐을 타고서 큰 성황을 이루었다. 그 결과 전례 드물게 성과를 올림으로써 그 이전에 비교하여 이해도를 한층 더 드높일 수 있었다. 가야사 관련 史料가 매우 희소할 뿐만 아니라 그나마도 많은 문제점을 갖고 있었다는 사실을 고려하면 괄목할 만한 발전이었다고 평가하여도 무방할 듯싶다. 거기에는 새로운 문헌자료의 증가보다는 발굴 작업을 통한 고고자료의 急增이라는 사실이 작용한 것으로 보인다. 그러나 근자에 이르러서는 어떤 緣由에서인지는 분명하지는 않지만 가야사 연구가 질량의 두 측면에서 상당한 활력을 잃고 있다는 느낌이다. 그 원인을 나름대로 추적하고 분석해냄으로써 기왕과 같은 전성기를 구가해볼 길은 없을까를 탐색해보는 문제제기를 시도하였다.

Based on the fact that, in recent years, a study on the history of Gaya has lost vitality and has been sluggish on both sides of quality and quantity, this paper intended to briefly examine the problems inherent and search ways to activate the study. The study on the history of Gaya has made a great success since 1970s, when it once ran into a kind of boom. As a result, by raising the performance unprecedently, the comprehension of the history of Gaya could be improved even more than before. Considering the fact that historical records of the history of Gaya were very rare and even those records had many problems in them, it may safely be said that it was a significant growth. It seems that there was a surge in archaeological data through excavation rather than an increase in new literature materials. For some unaccountable reasons, the study on the history of Gaya seems to have lost its vitality on both sides of quality and quantity in recent years. This paperposed a challenge to find out a way to enjoy the heyday again by tracking and analyzing that cause.
